Retiring in Harmony with your Spouse

You may view retirement as an individual decision.  However, if you’re married, you need to coordinate your retirement plans . . . after all, there are two of you.

Like all major life decisions, there is plenty of room for disagreements and misunderstandings.  Therefore, you need to coordinate your thoughts, plans and expectations of each other in this stage of your life.  Specifically, you’ll want to make sure you’ve thoughtfully decided about whether to retire together or separately, whether to continue some form of employment, whether you’ll maintain or even enhance your social activities, etc.

When it comes down to it, you may have a very different perspective on retirement than your spouse, unless you coordinate your retirement expectations.
